The first step to apply for the D7 Visa should start with scheduling an appointment with the Portuguese Embassy or Consulate of the applicant´s country of residence.
The applicant must present the following documentation:
- Visa application form.
- Valid passport for 6 months or more.
- Two identical, updated photos.
- Valid criminal record certificate.
- Proof of adequate accommodation in Portugal.
- Proof of sufficient and available funds to live in Portugal, shown in the applicant´s Portuguese bank account statement.
- Travel insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros.
- Proof of regular passive income.
All documents must be translated to Portuguese and legalized.
The visa is valid for 120 days and allows the applicant to legally travel to Portugal and prepare for the second step of the procedure.
The second step of the procedure is to present to the Immigration and Borders Office (SEF) the resident permit application.
The applicant must present the following documentation:

- Passport and a copy.
- Valid criminal record certificate.
